Appealing to the Hive Mind

This is a sort-of question blog. I've been puzzling over the digital photostory assignment, thinking about what makes literature literature, the eternal question that will probably never be satisfactoraly solved.
With digital storytelling does the story serve the visuals or vice versa? or must they be symbiotic? must visuals be literal interpretations of the story? can the visuals be the story?
The answer to all these questions, I suspect, is yes.
With that in mind, here are three videos that strike me as great examples of digital storytelling.

Finally, this clip. I found this movie deeply unsettling, and I'm not sure why. Maybe you will think it's just funny. Thoughts?
