Google World

I just came across a set of illustrations (via Slate) by artist Alejo Malia. According to Jessica Grose, these illustrations "are meant to represent the elements found on Google Maps... showing what a Google-generated marker would look like plopped in the midst of a real-earth setting." As we think about the effect of e-media on culture, I feel these images provide an interesting juxtaposition.

  1. I really like the picture with the monkeys, the moss on the marker, treating it as an organic and accepted part of the environment, while in the pic with the info bubble, the dude in the foreground seems surprised, as if this is not a common occurence.

  2. Your post reminds me of a campaign that an on-line mapping service had a few years ago that featured gigantic red pushpins in popular public places. This is a link to the only similar thing I could find.
