improper discourse?

Well, since following Joshua’s posts on Manovich is the same kind of suicide as following the one truly talented person in every talent show, I’ll take that easier road to travel and discuss the videos. I found English Downfall downright delightful, that is, until I watched the rebuttal. Then, Doug Shaw? (the Prof.) made me feel guilty, twice actually, and all the while I’m trying to figure out the answer to his sticky, tricky grammar question. On one hand I felt guilty for my lack of sensitivity and in the other I noticed I was drinking a real beer and couldn’t help but be simultaneously impressed and disgusted by that six pack of O’dules he had atop his fridge. Oh, thanks. Now I gotta feel guilty for drinking real beer. But wait. Maybe the O’dules implies he’s not a savvy teetotaler, but instead a recovering alcoholic. I should be sensitive to that possibility and erase this already late post attempt. In fact, I just noticed I used the word suicide in the first line of this post and for all I don’t know, somebody visiting the blog will take offense to said (dead) diction choice based on a past tragedy. Perhaps I shouldn’t have mentioned drinking a real beer because someone reading the blog lost someone in a drunk driving accident. What do I know? Well, I know that my analogies are extremely false when compared to the man’s legitimate frustration with Hitler analogies used for humor. I can’t relate to his great battle, but I respect his pain and his point. Rhetors need to be careful when they are trying to be clever. But I’m for art and argument even if the argument is artless (see this post). I wonder what Doug Shaw thought of Life is Beautiful or Chaplin’s The Great Dictator or Inglorious Bastards, etc. How does he want his Hitler portrayed? I got the feeling it wasn’t the analogy he was angry with, but rather the inability of others to see something as seriously as he sees it. In the age of South Park, that is a tough climb. I didn’t see the possibly offensive note below the English Downfall video before watching it. I did see it under the Obstructionist Clowns link. Now that can’t possibly be offensive. Wait. People have been hurt by clowns….

P.S. The Big Fat Gay Collab was *&%$@#* terrific.
